How Do Trusses Work?

The sturdiness of the core is very important, because a poorly designed or built truss may not only fail to hold up the structure, but it may also collapse. The right choice of truss will guarantee its strength and its stability.

When you plan to build a whole truss, you have to make sure that you keep the core beams at a fixed height, which prevents herding of the load. This can be achieved by means of beams with bolts on both sides, so that the load is evenly distributed. Another advantage of a single beam is that the weight can be supported by the combined weight of the central beam and all the outer beams. Of course you must place these beams on top of a base to ensure that the load is distributed to every corner of the structure.

The choice of trussing technique can also affect the strength of the building. These techniques may be installed on a pre-built truss or they may be added to the truss. If you do decide to install a truss of your own, you must bear in mind that there is always a limit to the number of stresses that a single truss can withstand, and the fact that the truss is considerably heavier than the existing core does not help matters.
