The Many Types of Aluminum Stage Rigs

Aluminum stage rigging is a necessary and popular form of stage and construction work. It is constructed using lightweight aluminum extrusions that are affixed to the main structure or support beams, allowing for flexibility as well as strength, making it ideal for both large and small structures. There are many different varieties that can be used for both commercial and residential venues, with each offering various advantages.

For instance, one of the most popular types of stage rigging equipment is retractable girders, which can be easily erected or removed from their supporting posts as needed. These platforms are a preferred method of allowing performers or other people to move around on the stage because of their lightweight design, and portability. Not only that, but they are also easy to set up and take down, and typically weigh less than half a ton. This allows for them to be moved around safely while on the go, or being transported to a new location for staging.

In addition to the aforementioned stage girders, aluminum stage rigging equipment can also include aluminum poles and trusses, as well as aluminum poles and beams. Of course, these different materials will require different types of supports in order to properly support them. The most popular type of support is called "running deck", which is used for running cables from the stage to various points on the venue property. Another popular option is the use of "rung" beams, which offer the same advantages as deck beams, but are more versatile due to their placement on the ground. They can also be set up in any manner imaginable, whether placed vertically or horizontally. For heavy structures that need extra support, there are even collapsible rungs and poles, which can be quickly erected or removed from the support area.

In addition to the various aluminum stage rigging equipment options available, there are a variety of different rigging schemes that can be used to create the best overall appearance for any production. For example, some stage technicians like to incorporate "dummy" rigging techniques that let them simulate the actual effects of large, weighty objects without actually having them placed on stage. These types of stage rigging options allow the technician to place numerous smaller items in a variety of positions, without worrying about them actually interacting with one another or the larger, heavier pieces. This technique can prove very helpful for easily creating the illusion of multiple, evenly sized objects.

Of course, aluminum stage rigging equipment is not limited to the creation of large, weighty structures. In fact, light, movable pieces are often used to create smaller stages and other unique stages, as well. In this instance, light fixtures, including disco balls, chimes, and wall sconces, can be strategically placed on the stage to give the illusion of a larger space. These are particularly useful for smaller venues that lack the available space for bigger, more massive elements, such as tables, chairs, or other heavy elements.

Of course, even the smallest stage can benefit from aluminum stage rigging equipment. One type of device commonly used in this application is the "clamp" or "tie down" system. These systems are often used to secure smaller elements, such as small banisters or handrails. They may also be employed to secure individual elements of the stage, such as lighting fixtures or runner strips. Regardless of what type of stage is being used, these systems make it very difficult for even the most skilled technicians to move the elements of the stage.
